Bonjour, my introduction to Motorcycles

Hi, my name is Amédée.
The first single track 'vehicle' (M/C) I rode was a red/white Honda 50, step through.
It was on a dirt road going to the beach on our property in Cape Breton.
I was quite proud of the fact that someone would let me try his bike.
All this time I will always remember a couple of 'bikes' in the area: my english teacher's late 60's triumph and another unsavoury guy's Honda 'Dream' or some such named M/C. I could hear that one long after he went by my place half due to the landscape / lay of the land and half due to his loud pipes.
I didn't experience the thrill again for a while until I got to borrow a friend's JAWA (125 or 250cc) that they sold at the local 'Robin Jones' hardware store in Chéticamp. I took it into the woods as it was supposedly street & trail. The chain broke, I got a fix and carried on until the return.
This same friend also let me try his 750 Honda a few years later, the first powerful bike I ever rode, this M/C bug was catching.
I didn't get 'my' bike until much later but I never lost the exhilirating feeling you got from those casual encounters with thse m/c.
There was another occurence when we were partying in Cape Breton, probably in my college days and a friend who was also one of the local RCMP had a brown BMW model R100.
It was my only DUI on a motorcycle and I didn't really get the centrifugal process going, but that intro did stay with me 'till my first motorcycle arrangement.
In 1975 - 1976, I was working in Halifax, and also had a roommate who had bought a Green Honda CB360.
He got his license one afternoon, came and picked me up and carried me as a passenger to the Reg of M/V for my test.
Within a matter of a couple of hours he had the bike registered and we were both licensed. He worked night-shift , me - dayshift , and we shared insurance and expenses.
I really had the bug at that point, thoroughly infected.
I did have spill on the CB360 Honda , at the corner of Brunswick and Sackville Streets, heading 'up' Sackville. Since then, I've always respected the excess gravel that the seal-coating process leaves behind. I also learned that you can get an abrasion with jeans even though the jeans aren't damaged.
In the fall of 1977 a colleague at work had a, then, practically new 1974 BMW R90S for sale.
He had bought it at the beginning of the summer from a BMW/Mercedes Benz car dealer in Montreal. The owner had put about 2000 miles on it and had then made a bracket for it and had it suspended on the showroom 'wall' as a trophy.
Glen bought it from him and rode it for the summer on the original Quebec license plate (I still have it). I bought it from him with 6500 miles on the odometer on November 7th 1977.
I am the registered second owner.
So almost one month ago I've had my current M/C for 30 years and it now has 138,000+ miles on a refurbed meter.
I had no plans for keeping it this long, it just happened.
It has served me well, I have made many, many, motorcycle friends.
In 1978 we met at Lowell & Gladys Perry's to begin forming this current club.
We settled on a charter, collected dues and made plans to meet and ride shortly there after.
Many members have come and gone, in the insuing years we have had much to be thankful for as a club, safe group rides, gatherings, and above all the current mix.

I am married to MaryAnn and have 2 children, Adam and Danielle, and we live in Waverley.
I work in Halifax for Bell-Aliant (my how time flies), but soon to have a career change due to downsizing (for lack of a better term).
I am now working at the Université Sainte Anne - Halifax campus, as a facilitator.
I've been here since 2008 August.
I have added a 2003 DL1000 Suzuki Vstrom to my bike stable.

Amedee, do you think your Adam and Danielle will follow in your beemer footsteps?

Not sure, They are both interested in the BMW's and bikes in general.
But I would prefer that they concentrate on finishing their schooling
first. Danielle will never pass up the oportunity to ride. Adam has
'outgrown' riding with Dad a few years ago.
I hope thatin later years we can ride together, that would be neat.
