This reminds me....
At a seminar at the Wisconsin Dells Rally this fall it was suggested that we all should put reflective tape on the underside of our bikes and/or panniers.
If the above incident ever happens where your bike is on its side at night it could be very difficult to be seen by motorists. The rider whose suggestion it was had hit a deer and his bike was very nearly hit by a car as he lay near by.
I think it's a great idea.... that I forgot to implement until now.

I always do that on my bikes for this reason.
I have pieces of 3M reflective tape all over the bike (saddle bags, forks, frame)
