Mis-behaving temperature display Empty Mis-behaving temperature display

Last year, during our trip west, I noticed my temperature display (R1100RT) would disappear around 6 bars, slightly over the normal 5 bars. This would happen in slow traffic, and the display would return once I had travelled a bit at normal speed. Since the problem was repeatable and the display acted normally on the open highway, I suspected a defective temperature sensor. A check with our not-local dealer indicated $127 plus tax for a new sensor, so I purchased a used one at Beemer BoneYard for $30.
Replacing the sucker involved removing the fairing and tank, and even then I could not get a normal wrench on the sensor to remove it. After looking all over Burnside for a suitable tool (a 3/4" deep socket with a slot in the side) I ended up making one from a cheap impact socket from Princess Auto.
The happy ending ... the tool worked fine and the problem appears to be solved. Hopefully, no-one else gets this problem, but if you ever need to borrow the tool give me a call/email:-)

Keng, Ain't mis-behaving no more:
Sounds like a oxygen sensor socket is what you made? Glad the Engineering and used part did the trick. My temp sensor is a needle one from Cdn Tire. When that fails I use my finger.

I thought it would be easy to find a tool but even the sensor toolkit at Princess Auto didn't have the correct size. I guess 19 mm or 3/4 in sensors are not very common. Same problem at CTC and everywhere else I tried. Fortunately 1/2 hour on the grinder gave a solution:-) My finger might work but my arm isn't long enough to reach the cooler when I'm riding and it's hard to interface to the RID:-)
