Hi: As noted before, we (Richard BMWR1200GS and Gail R1200CL) are booked to visit Nova Scotia and Newfoundland summer of 2011. We were hopeing to get route suggestions, or awesome spots to stop. We thought we read about an East Coast Riders weekend. Any ideas?

Thanks g and r

Smile Hi Again, I do not know of an East Coast Riders event although I hear mention of an East Coast ATV Riders group. As far as events go there are lots, I gather you are referring to Motorcycle events. There is a nice all marques Rally, Canada day weekend in billtown , See our links in the Rides and rallies section in our new designed (but still under construction) website. There you have links to a few local m!c events such as the Bluenose rally and the Biker Fest. Of the two I think the bluenose is nicer and smaller, has camping with hotels not too far away. I don't have any personal experience with the Biker Fest but I think it caters more to the cruiser crowd. As Bill mentioned knowing more about your length of stay in each province would give us of an idea of what to recommend. There is also a Wharf Rat rally in Digby first part of August I believe. Non m/c events include the Halifax busker festival, jazz festival, and probably some I've missed. You should contact the NS dept of tourism and also order the Doers and Dreamers tour book as well as the M/c tour guide I suggested previously....

... Notable places to visit:
Westport, Briar Island; Tidal power station,Annpolis Royal; Blomidon Lookoff, the valley; Halls Harbour for a Lobster dinner and a viewing of the tides; Numerous wineries in the valley area; ...on the south shore - Lunenburg, the Ovens natural park; Mahone bay ( Wooden boat festival); Chester; Blandford Penninsula, Hubbards beach, Peggy's Cove; Swissair crash Memorial.
On the eastern shore - Lawrencetown beach; Sherbrooke village onto Goshen and antigonish; ... swing the the Northumberland coast and visit Cape George lighthouse.
On towards Cape Breton,,, - Louisburg (plan to spemd the better part of a day there), Glace Bay (take the coal mine tour), take in 'the men of the deeps'; Go counter clockwise around the CabotTrail. Along the way stop at St Ann's Gaelic College, the lookoff on the top of Cape Smokey, Vist White poin wharf or the pioneer cemetary; bay St, Lawrence or MeatCove; visit the Gambo Abbey buddhist Monastary in Red River; Ha lunch at the Rusty Anchor restaurant;...up the macKenzie Mtn and on to the french Mountain . Coming off French Mountain stop at the lookoff showing the vista unfolding ahead of you. Continue to Cheticamp, ( my hometown) and visit St. Peters church. If you're there on a saturday afternoon, check out the Doreyman Tavern if you like fiddling. If you like Golf Ingonisha or Cheticamp will offer the best scenic vistas of any golf course in Canada (biased opinion). PLaces to eat in Cheticamp - la Gabriel, Artisanale Restaurant. Flora's for Hooked rugs. Go to Cheticamp Island and go the either end of the island ( don't worry about the cattle, they're just checking you out). Cheticamp beach is great for camping. As you continue around the trail, take the shore road ar Margaree Harbour. Visit the Red Shoe Pub in Mabou ( owned and operated by the Rankin sisters) and do take in a dance at South West Mabou. The barn at the Inverary Inn is also a happening place certain days of the week for Scottish entertainment.
Most of this stuff isn't necessarily all biking stuff or events but it will give you a taste of the maritimes in Nova Scotia.
having limited info on your trip this is the best I can do.

August 5, 6 and 7 we have the NS/QC BMW meeting in New Brunswick (Grand Falls). This is a small rally and we already reserved the cottage (64 beds).

You are so right Bert. I guess writing reponses past midnight isn`t my strongest talent. The mind gets foggy and the typos are frequent. I`ll also add the NS/QC event to our calendar. Thanks. Smile
