i'm at one of those feel good workshops where they get everyone to introduce themselves... damn i hate those. at least here none of you are staring at me... you're not staring right???

well none of you know me except that i have exchanged pleasantries with tree through pm's on advrider.com (and no i haven't forgotten about the beer!) and i believe i owe Amedee one HJC helmet from the old forum (which incidentally you are welcome to now). Oh yeah and I bought a charger from Jon Engweiler back in the spring.

i always loved motorcycles, growing up in Corner Brook, NL it was like a rite of passage to get your license at 16. i rode my cousin's 100cc dirt bike when i could and my grandfather's moped (pretending it was a CR250... which didn't bode well for it's longevity). by the time i was old enough to get my license we had moved to st. john's and the thought of me driving around the 'big city' on a motorcycle was just too much for my mother. she had her way until i was in my early twenties and i finally bought my first bike, an 84 GPZ750. great bike, and had an awesome kick when it hit 7000 rpm, but unfortunately it met an untimely end when a cage couldn't see me driving up the road one dark and wet night. luckily i slid away from the impact unscathed. unfortunately the GPZ wound up with bent forks, need i say more. i used the insurance money to buy an 88 Katana 600 which served me well for a couple of years but was ultimately sold to help finance school.(that bike was waaaay too quick off the line!)

after a hiatus for schooling and early employment i could finally afford another bike and bought my first new ride and 2000 Katana 750. Around this time my cousin, who shared my love of bikes, had gotten into a GS and was extolling it's ample virtues to me (which in hindsight was quite cruel as i was nowhere near able to afford a bmw!). He eventually turned me on to advrider.com and i finally found my dream bike, the r1150 gs adv. as luck would have it (along with some long overdue financial maturity on my part) i found myself in the position of being able to actually consider a gs. I found one in TO and after a quick sale of the Katana, i did the old fly-in-ride to bring home my new to me gs adv. this bike is unlike any other i've ridden, and handles better than any of them as well (even with the knobbies on!).

my riding and socializing has been minimal recently due to a new house, wife, and baby all within the last 9 months, but one of these days i swear i'm gonna join the club and actually get out to a meeting!

cheers
marc

Hi Marc, congratulations are in order for your newborn, wife and house. You may have to consider exchanging your GS for..........a R1200R with sidecar ;^)
