oil filter for a K75

Post by swells on Wed Nov 21, 2007 9:52 pm

I getting ready for winter, I just changed the oil for in
the K75. I bought a BMW oil filter for
~$24.00, but the one I pulled out was ~30% longer and black with no
markings. I am not brand orientated, but
I donít want a crapy oil filter either. I
like the idea of a larger/longer oil filter, is there a suitable replacement
for the $24 BMW filter?

The same ones used on the oilhead work for K bikes .

FRAM PH3614 is readily available - see note below

and

AC DELCO PF-53

I use PF-53 only as they fit my wrench without jamming on , Fram has dubious history:

(cross posted ) " read below and you won't want one in you bike or car ..."

Walmart had AC Delco but maybe not anymore. $4 ea
FRAM is everywhere + Crappy tire

Thanks for the information and link. Scary thing is
fram at least labels their filter. Who ever made what I took out could
not even bother to put their name on it. I think I'll follow up on the
PF-53.

The filter being mounted inside the engine, you want to avoid having the paint of the outside of the filter desintegrating and being mixed with the engine oil Smile .
I do not have a spare filter at home and don't remember the brand name of the one I use, but they also don't have any marking on the outside.
This week I have to buy 2 and I will post the name of the manufacturer.

Yes, the bmw filter are made to resist the heat and oil from the engine. I saw pictures of other brand where the paint was dissolving. Usualy the filters are on the outside of the case and paint is not an issue. On K bikes, you have to be carefull.

I just bought 2 spare oil filters from RPM cycles in Dartmouth.
They are HIFLO ref # 163 (314-0163).
The cost is only $10.00 and They are not painted.
