2015 Fall Colours
We should start thinking about configuring a fall colours ride.
Choice of weekends would be:
Sept 25,26,27 or Oct 2,3,4?
Format:
2 or 3 day spread on one of the above weekends?
Venue:
Motel or Bed and Breakfasts or chalets?
Some ideas:
1. Trailsman friday and Saturday night with romp around the trail on sat, return to stables on Sunday.
2. Trailsman on friday and counter clockwise saturday to Fraser Cabins or house in Chéticamp on Satuday night. Return on Sunday.
3. Ride to frasers in Chéticamp on friday. Around trail on saturday and return sat or stop along the way and return on Sunday.
4. Any other ideas?
We have to reserve soon for any luck in getting spots.
Let hash it out and and/or send out feelers to the group

Re: 2015 Fall Colours
The September dates work for me. I'll be in Dallas the first part of October so can't go if that's what works best for the majority.
I'm fine with any itinerary people prefer.
Amedee, do you have the ability to insert a poll into the thread so that people could easily identify their preferences?

Re: 2015 Fall Colours
All,
Today (sept 14, 2015) I have secured 5 rooms at the Trailsman Motel in Nyanza, Cape Breton.
I am proposing we do the Cabot Trail on the weekend of Sept 25 - 27.
The results of the poll are basically split down the middle with comments of 'prefer to not ride in the rain'.
I think that's everybody's preference.
Because predictions for weather don't go beyond 2 weeks I can only reasonably predict to sept 28.
That being a favourable weather outlook I say we book for that weekend.
That being said we will book our own accommodations at the trailsmans.
If a couple book your own room.
If individual riders wish to bunk in with a buddy you can communicate with Ken George at bmwonscom@gmail.com or myself at aaucoin@ns.sympatico.ca and we will do our best to put you in touch with a buddy to share a room.
Rates are $109.00 +tax and includes a continental breakfast.
A few of us have stayed there before and were pleased with the accommodations.
The herring choker café is close by and has good food. Not sure what their hours are.
For those of you have have preferred the oct 2-4 date I hope you might still be able to join us on the earlier date.
Thank you.
P.S. there are rooms available for the october 2-4 2015 date at the Trailsman.
Cheticamp accommodations for 0ct2-4 are basically all booked up I was told because there is a 4 wheeler rally event happening there then.
Feel free to form a group ride if that is the consensus among riders who can't make the sept 25-27 ride date.

Re: 2015 Fall Colours
So far we are booked at the Trailsman for the 25th and 26th.
The Lipscombs, myself (Amédée) and Ken George and Alan Coles; that's three rooms.
Glen G. is planning on coming as well.
Thats six so far.
At the moment I am holding three more rooms that I have to let go by wednesday if no one wants to take these.
At the moment there are more rooms available, I believe. It's just that they might not be walk-up rooms and together.
If you wish to join us, feel to book your own room from the reserved block.
If you do please identify yourself as a member of this group.
A group of us are planning on leaving the metro area around noon on friday.
We will probably meet at the Irving Big Stop in Enfield
Other info from the Trailsman...

Re: 2015 Fall Colours
The usual plan is to ride to destination accomodation on friday, ride counter clockwise on saturday back to Trailsman in the current scenario. And travel home on Sunday.
We have been known to stop at Clucking Hen Café for a coffee break, top of smokey to dump coffee and enjoy views and scenery, lunch in Pleasant Bay at the rusty Anchor. Maybe a stop at bottom of French Mountain for Oows and Aaaws, could stop at the Doreyman in Cheticamp for a visit with the ATS crowd (there may be a cover charge depending on when we get there).
Then back to Trailsman for a rest.
Above can be amended as the group dictates.

Re: 2015 Fall Colours
Sounds good Amedee, I'm looking forward to it. Got my fingers crossed for great weather. Just got back home, approximately 2,400 km on the "new-to-me" bike on the trip. Enjoyed the ride but had some strong crosswinds, actually hurt my neck slightly from one semi going by and the sudden changes in wind direction.

Re: 2015 Fall Colours
Hi,
The lipscombs have cancelled for this run.
So we are down to 4 if we count Glen G. in the pack.
Has anyone heard of anyone expressing an interest in coming?
I plan to let go of the held rooms on my card by wednesday, so there is still time to
take in some drive up rooms.
Cheers,Amédée

Re: 2015 Fall Colours
I'm cancelling the remaining block of rooms this afternoon around 1pm.
If anyone else is interested send me a message here or at aaucoin at ns dot sympatico dot ca . Cancelling rooms at that time doesn't mean rooms aren't available, it's just that I am not dinged for them.
Weather keeps fluctuating between sunny with cloudy periods on sat with 40% P.O.P at 1mm to showers with same pop. Temps at 13C-14C.
But not a washout by any means and should be a salvageable weekend - weatherwise.

Re: 2015 Fall Colours
To my fellow riders who will be heading up to CB on Friday:
May I suggest to this group that we meet at 12:30 (or at some other agreeable time) at the Big Stop in Enfield. From there maybe go cross country to near Stellarton (come out at exit 20 I believe).
Stop at the Tims at exit 21 and decide the next leg.

Re: 2015 Fall Colours
Amedee, I'm out of town at the moment and don't recall the routes you were looking at for Saturday and Sunday, but after reading about the anticipated heavy traffic in and around Inverness on Saturday, it might make sense, if convenient, to go through Inverness on Sunday versus Saturday if Inverness is on the route and switchable.

Re: 2015 Fall Colours
Going through Middle River which is my plan will take us no where near Inverness and return us to Nyanza in quickest fashion.
There are also other options.

Re: 2015 Fall Colours
Amedee, I've not taken the time to look at the route you mentioned above but thought I'd pass on this info from a friend who rode the trail this Tuesday (FYI):
See you all tomorrow in Enfield at 12:30pm.
Thought I'd pass it along.... only down side ... I decided to not use English town ferry and instead went around and up .... that entire road was under construction .... or should I say the pavement had been planed down making those multiple grooves all bikers love .... for several km , 15 maybe ... once on the CT proper though , it was great ,roads were pretty good
See you all tomorrow in Enfield at 12:30pm.

Well the Fall Colours were mostly green, but the weather and roads were great! Thanks to Amedee, Alan and Glen for a truly enjoyable ride. Can't do much better than the Cabot Trail in nice cool fall weather.

Re: 2015 Fall Colours
My feeling as well Ken. The weather was really great, couldn't ask for anything better this time of year.
Great riding with you and Glen and Amedee. Roads were pretty darn good, weather was very good, scenery was great as always, pace was good and the riding companions were great.
It was nice to meet up with Sandy and then the Antigonish crowd, as well as a few other folks.
Really glad I was able to make it.
I think the view from our room at the Trailsman Motel tells part of the story. Waiting to see some of everyone else's photos:
Thanks guys.

Re: 2015 Fall Colours
Well, you've pretty well expressed my sentiments about this ride
as well as I could have.
The colours weren't as vivid as I've seen before but the discussions
were colourful. Great company, roads and machines.
Good combination for a successful ride thanks to all you came
and we met along the way.
Saturday morning Bras d'or sunrise
Me, Ken and Glen on top of ol`Smokey
Alan looking to open up 'which' vent?
The bikes pointing to twisty parts.
French Mountain look off scenery.
Sunday morning Bras d'Or sunrise.
as well as I could have.

Great that you were able to join us for the time you did Glen. As you say, it was a great time.
I think Amedee's idea of doing the trip from Friday afternoon to Sunday, with both Friday and Saturday evening at the Trailsman worked really well. It made it easier for anyone who could only do the Friday - Saturday leg or the Saturday - Sunday leg to participate.
Really do enjoy riding this time of year, when it isn't raining and before there are leaves on the road. :-)

Not that I'm aware of. As Amedee said, I think there'll be rain for the next two weekends. Unfortunately, it's that time of year again.
