My KLR kinda does that already ( a way to long side stand). I have to find a hole to park it in.

Haven't gotten to that yet.

By the way - I am down into the internals to replace the doo-hickey. Everything is going ok so far (knock wood).

The doohickey tensions the chain that runs the counterbalancing shaft.
KLRs were noted for having springs that were too weak (or too long) and therefore not providing enough tension.Also, on earlier models, the ensigns device itself was prone to failure, leaving little pieces of metal inside the motor. The replacement part is much sturdier and comes with a much stronger spring (which I was swearing at last night - cause its really strong).
